Big Girl Bed

In August we decided that it was waaay past time to move Mallory from her toddler bed to a real bed. After all, she was almost five and has literally spent her lifetime sleeping on a crib mattress that was 8 years old because Dalton used it first. Her furniture transitioned to a full and we were concerned that this would give her no room to 'play' so that's when the hunt started. We spent some time looking, talking, thinking, agonizing, shopping and then nothing. I was thinking a daybed with trundle would be perfect. It would still give her room to play and would allow for a sleepover, but unfortunately we could not agree on furniture. The last time we walked into Rooms To Go we were planning to purchase something, but we ended up walking out with nothing and headed home to re-group.

 

While in the store all of us kept going back to a 'full' size bedroom set which we already had at home. After some measuring we decided to keep the furniture we already had and convert the bed to a full size. A few hours later and furniture moved around to fit in her room Mallory broke down. She absolutely hated it! Why you ask? Exactly what we thought...the bed was TOO BIG! It was a drastric change from her little crib mattress plus it left her noooo room to actually play in her room.

 

So, we had just bought a twin mattress because that is what we originally thought we were going to do and then we bought a full when we decided to keep her furniture, now what were we going to do with all this furniture? Well to keep this story short, the kids switched bedroom furniture. Dalton wanted the full size bed and Mallory wanted his twin size. So, in the same day Ryan and I took both beds apart. Moved all the furniture and swapped rooms. I think it would have been easier to just move their closets!! The kids were excited to have their new rooms and we were excited to have it finished or at least temporarily while we tested the waters before we made another big investment. To date they are both still sleeping all night in their rooms and are loving it.

 

I just realized in trying to update this blog that I never took any of the final room pics as I only have a couple from the original night. I'll have to get those and update the post at a later date.
