Graduation Day

It's Kindergarten Graduation Day!
WOW, I'm not sure we can really comprehend the fact that our baby boy is graduating from Kindergarten today! Last week during our parent / teacher conference we were assurred Dalton is ready for 1st grade.

His social skills, work habits, alphabet knowledge, reading and language arts skills are all satisfactory or above. Accelerated reader he tested out at a 1.6 meaning he is currently reading at a 1st grade six month level which is as high as they will test in Kindergarten. TPRI screening for phonemic awareness, graphophonemic knowledge and listening comprehension was mastered by the middle of the year. In Kindergarten they use an assessment called the Developmental Reading Assessment (DRA). Dalton is on a level 16 reading a book with a word count of 266. Comments from his teacher state that he is a wonderful reader! 16 is the highest level they can test in Kindergarten. He also almost maxed out on the STAR Early Literacy testing. His writing has significantly improved over the year and his math, science, social studies, music and PE skills are satisfactory for the year. Dalton had a super year of Kindergarten. He proved to be a very hard worker and quick learner. He is a proven reader and we learned that things seem to come natural to him. He easily gets bored waiting on the class to finish the lesson. All 15 of his sight word tests were 100's and 13 of his 14 math chapter tests were 100's (he only missed one question on one chapter test).

Now as parents we face a tough decision...where to send him for 1st grade...private or public! Let me just say that this has not been an easy decision process and one that has actually been on our minds since January. Ultimately we have to make a decision by August. Please pray that we make the best decision for him.
