City By The Bay

Last Friday, anniversary day, we woke up before sunrise excited for a hot air ballon ride we had planned. As we got dressed the phone rang. It was our pilot letting us know that mother nature decided not to cooperate and provided more wind than was needed for ballooning. Of course we were bummed, maybe more so me, but we decided to re-group. After our balloon ride the plan was to leave Napa, return the car at the airport and head into San Fran for the rest of our time in the bay area.

After a few hours of discussion and working out minor details we checked out of our hotel in Napa, made a phone call to re-book the balloon ride for the next day as we said a prayer for great weather, called to extend our car rental an additional day to allow us to drive back to Napa early Saturday morning for the balloon ride and then we headed into San Francisco for a little sightseeing to make the most of our time in the bay area.

Before we left Napa I randomly snapped a few homes. No home was identical or similar.

On our way into the city this was the toll booths to get onto the Bay Bridge, the only way in or out. ($6 fare)

Our 1st stop was Pier 39.

A view of Alcatraz from across the bay.

We ate lunch at Bubba Gump's, the same place we ate on our honeymoon for lunch 10 years ago.

Of course there was more chocolate than you could imagine.

The flowers were in full bloom and absolutely gorgeous!

Public restroom anyone. These were scattered thru town everywhere. Never actually used one and not sure I would have wanted, but they were available if needed.

I forgot about all the street performers, but between them and vendors the street was lined full between Pier 39 and Fisherman's Wharf everyday.

The beach anyone. Water temps average low to mid 60"s. Sounds like a nice refreshing dip but I can't say we tried it. Too cold for me!!

Once we left the pier we walked down to Ghiradelli Square, tasted candy and enjoyed some chocolate ice cream.

Don't think I could live in a environment like this. A few trees, no grass, neighbors on top of you and only windows to the front and if you are lucky to the back. How can something like this cost millions? Supply and demand!! To many people and not enough room.

Before we returned the car we took a casual drive down the famous Lombard Street otherwise known as the crookedest street.

We stayed at the Parc 55 in Union Square on the 27th floor.

View from our room.

Street view as we waited for the street car.

This was our main mode of transportation other than our two feet which we used a lot.

Sunset from Pier 39.

We ate at Neptune's Friday night for our anniversary dinner. We wanted a nice quite place to watch the sunset over the bay.

We ordered creme brulee for dessert. It came in 3 flavors and of course our favorite was chocolate.
